PARENTS: NEED A SUMMER PROJECT?

PARENTS: NEED A SUMMER PROJECT?

Parents are you looking for a summer project for your kids? Why not create a neighborhood newsletter? This not only keeps the kids busy but it involves some social contact with your neighbors.

MATERIALS NEEDED:
Colored copying paper
Markers—assorted colors
Black fine tip marker
Black bold tip marker
A few family photos and a camera to take along
Stapler
INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR KIDS:
Get a notepad and pencil and a camera.
Go to neighbors houses: (parents will assign each kid certain houses.)
Ask permission to do a little interview. Questions might be:
1. Are you having any visitors coming for a stay?
Paulette M. Wagner

2. Have your pets had any babies? Birthdays?
3. Have you had any hospital stays?
4. Have you gone on any trips?
5. What is your favorite song, color, flower, food?
6. When is your birthday?
STEPS TO DO AFTER THE INTERVIEW:
Next after the kids have gotten their interviews and taken pictures with permission, return home, get the photos developed or use a digital camera.
Copy the photos onto the colored paper either by a computer or at a printing shop.
In the remaining space on the paper write the interviews or turn into little stories or articles with the markers.
Staple the pages together and hand deliver to the neighbors.
After a couple of weeks repeat the process for another newsletter. Everyone loves to see their names in print and the visits are fun too.
If any of the neighbors have had any birthdays, anniversaries, births, hospitalizations, or deaths since the last newsletter, have the kids make a card for that occasion. The thoughtfulness will be appreciated.

The kids could get four to six newsletters out over the summer. And perhaps the newsletter will be so successful that it will carry over to fall, winter, and spring.
Have fun!

Paulette...great post...you should submit to an online ezine. You should think about adding a links section with other bloggers, writers websites, writers groups, etc. Take at look at mine - http://www.donna-mcdine.blogspot.com to see what I mean.

Warmly, Donna

Hi, welcome to our writers group. Great blog. I am still learning to add links and such but it is so much fun creating and learning from the others. I am looking forward to getting to know the others in our group. Best of luck.
